Coimbatore: Police have planned to deploy 1,916 personnel on Wednesday evening when 384 Ganesh idols will be taken on a procession to be immersed in water bodies across the city. People from other districts are not allowed to take part in the procession, and only those whose names were given to police in advance can participate. Violators will be arrested and remanded.
Police have installed more than 1,000 CCTV cameras on the procession routes. As many as 682 Ganesh idols were installed in the city for Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday.
The first procession of the idols will begin at Sundarapuram Junction on Wednesday evening. Various right wing organisations are planning to immerse 384 Ganesh idols in the water bodies on Wednesday. Police said as many as 113 idols are going to be immersed in Kurichi Kulam, 43 in Kuniyamuthur tank, 49 in Singanallur tank and 143 in Vellakinar.
The remaining 298 idols will be immersed on Friday evening. TNN

Over 400 artificial tanks for idol immersion
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to install 413 artificial immersion tanks for Ganeshotsav. The tanks will be placed near the Koradi temple and at various locations outside lakes and residential areas. The NMC will also ban throwing of nirmalya in water bodies and provide bins for safe disposal of puja material. Similar initiatives are being taken by the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Nashik Municipal Corporation to prevent pollution during idol immersions. The BJP in Aarey Colony plans to establish an artificial pond for Ganpati immersion.
